Roulette

European wheels carry a single zero; American tables add a double zero that increases the house edge. Learn the layout, choose stake sizes you can afford to lose, and remember that no betting pattern changes the odds of the next spin.

Wheel variants and house edge

A standard European roulette wheel has 37 pockets numbered 0 through 36. The house edge on even-money bets is approximately 2.7% because the zero (and only the zero) causes total loss on red/black, odd/even, and high/low wagers. American wheels add 00, pushing the edge on those same outside bets to roughly 5.26% — for most recreational players, European or French tables are mathematically kinder.

French roulette often includes La Partage or En Prison rules on even-money bets. Under La Partage, you recover half your stake when zero hits; En Prison leaves the bet locked for the next spin. Both reduce the effective edge compared with standard European rules.

  • European: one zero, 2.7% edge on outside bets
  • American: zero and double zero, ~5.26% edge
  • French: La Partage can cut even-money edge further

Inside bets, outside bets and live play

Inside bets cover specific numbers or small groups on the layout — straight-up pays 35 to 1 but wins rarely. Outside bets cover broader sets such as dozens, columns, red/black, odd/even, and high/low; they hit more often but pay even money or 2 to 1. Combining many inside bets on one spin does not remove the edge; it only reshapes variance.

Live dealer roulette streams a real wheel with timed betting windows. Auto-roulette uses physical wheels with automated ball release. Both rely on the same independent-spin maths — previous results do not influence the next outcome, so progression systems cannot guarantee profit.

Set a session budget before opening a table, use operator deposit and loss limits, and take breaks when the pace feels too fast. Live chat and multiple camera angles can make play immersive; treat that as entertainment value, not an edge.
